"A house is a sanctuary, not a trophy"... The home of a 30-year veteran CF director built in Inje, Gangwon Province after 15 moves
CF director Shin Sang-soon, who has produced famous advertisements for 30 years, has built his own home near Soyang Lake in Inje, Gangwon Province. Moving away from viewing a house as a trophy of his intense career, he sought to create a sanctuary for rest and comfort.
CF director Shin Sang-soon, who has produced famous advertisements for 30 years, has built his own home near Soyang Lake in Inje, Gangwon Province. According to the EBS 'Architecture Exploration: House - Two Men's Life Vacation' video, Shin experienced about 15 moves during his past married life. At that time, he regarded a house as a trophy or a reward for his intense life, but now he sought to realize a house as a sanctuary that provides rest and comfort.
Design embracing the Ansan of Soyang Lake and 45cm insulation walls
The reason Shin Sang-soon decided on Gangwon Province, Inje as his settlement is the scenery of Soyang Lake. According to the explanation in the video, the small mountain located in front of the house acts as an 'Ansan' (rear mountain), providing a structure that filters the view. Shin stated that he decided to settle after discovering the scenery of this neighborhood by chance while traveling on a motorcycle.
Aesthetic sense and functionality were simultaneously reflected in the design of the house. The entrance was designed with a bent structure considering the internal movement flow, and a sense of space was secured through an entrance path turned at a 45-degree angle. In particular, considering the harsh cold, he aimed for a Passive House. The thickness of the house walls seen in the video reaches about 45cm. This is thicker than the wall thickness of a typical wooden house, using a method of filling 30cm of insulation and then additionally attaching wood boards and insulation boards to the exterior. Additionally, system windows and heat recovery ventilation devices were installed to increase comfort.
Windows overcoming the limitations of west-facing orientation and daily life in the vegetable garden
The living room features large windows on two sides to capture the scenery of Soyang Lake. However, the fact that the south side of the house faces west was a point of concern during the design process. According to the explanation in the video, the construction company expressed concern about making large windows on the west side, but Shin decided to make the windows on the condition of strengthening the insulation.
Gardening is ongoing around the house. Shin is experiencing the joy of farming by directly growing tomatoes, chili peppers, and more. He shared his feelings that being told by village people that he has a farmer's temperament makes him feel happy, as if he is being recognized as a local. He stated that through a life of getting dirt on his hands, he is letting go of formalities, focusing on what is important, and feeling comfortable.
The change from a 'person outside the house' to a 'person inside the house'
Shin, who was a 'person outside the house' who even found it difficult to return home due to busy work in the past, is currently living as a 'person inside the house' in Inje. He is taking charge of housework, such as preparing breakfast for his wife, who recently started working. Shin mentioned that if he had stayed in an apartment in Songpa in the past, he would have defined his life as 'a person retiring with a large-sized apartment,' noting that his current life is a process of escaping competition and finding rest.
