'Attitude' More Important Than Number of Certifications... Ideal Talent Profile Revealed at Hoban Group Recruitment Briefing

At large corporate recruitment briefings, the questions job seekers are curious about and the competencies companies demand intersect. Recently, at the Hoban Group recruitment briefing held at Hoban Park in Yangjae-dong, job seekers wishing to work for group affiliates such as construction and cables gathered to communicate with current employees. This event was held at Hoban Park, the Hoban Group headquarters, and was organized such that the Hoban Construction recruitment briefing took place in the morning, followed by the Taihan Cable & Solution briefing in the afternoon.

"What is more important than the number of certifications is the attitude toward the job"

An HR manager in charge of recruitment at Hoban Construction emphasized that when selecting new employees, they do not simply look at a list of specifications. According to the video, the company focuses more on the process of acquiring a certification and the attitude behind it rather than the certification itself.

The HR manager explained, "We closely examine the attitude you have toward this work behind your specifications, why you want to do this work, and the time you spent contemplating and preparing to become an expert through this work." In other words, the core is the 'sincerity' regarding how that certification connects to the job the applicant is aiming for and why they want to do that work at Hoban, rather than the mere fact of possessing a specific certification. Additionally, the company added, "There is a difference between the actual work performed and the requirements [of applicants]," noting that rather than expecting employees to perform at a professional level immediately upon joining, "we intend to closely look at whether they are prepared to learn well once they arrive."

In fact, one job seeker participating at the scene was a civil engineering major from Konkuk University, who stated they are preparing for employment after being discharged as an officer from ROTC. They revealed their readiness for the job by mentioning they hold Civil Engineering Engineer and Construction Safety Engineer certifications, along with an OPIc IH score in English. As such, job seekers preparing Civil Engineering Engineer or Construction Safety Engineer certifications tailored to their applied roles were observed at the scene.

Job tracks and realistic salary information shared by current employees

Specific information regarding job classifications and treatment was also shared at the recruitment briefing. In the case of Hoban Construction, based on construction-centered roles, they operate three job directions: ▲Field Expert Track ▲Business Expert Track ▲Management Expert Track.

A current engineer from Taihan Cable & Solution mentioned the importance of major-related competencies. Having joined in an engineering role in March 2023, he suggested that major knowledge serves as the foundation for practical work, stating, "I can confidently say that I took care of my major more than anyone else." He shared the case of acquiring both Electrical Engineer and Electrical Construction Engineer certifications and also conveyed the practical work environment where weekly field business trips occur due to the nature of engineering roles. Furthermore, regarding the salary level after joining, the employee mentioned, "It seems to be in the high 50 million won range based on gross income," adding that welfare and salaries have improved following the merger and acquisition by Hoban Group.

Taihan Cable & Solution stated that they prefer talent with abundant overseas sales capabilities when recruiting engineers. At the scene, a third-year student majoring in Electrical and Electronic Engineering was captured communicating with a current employee, showing interest in production technology or ENC (engineering) roles based on specifications such as undergraduate research experience and Computer Literacy Level 1.

The recruitment scene seen from the perspective of job seekers

Job seekers of various grades and majors participated in the recruitment briefing. Among them, those who had already begun preparing according to their roles, such as a civil engineering major from Konkuk University and a third-year Electrical and Electronic Engineering major from Inha University, stood out. They confirmed job suitability by asking questions one-on-one to current employees or sought advice necessary for building future specifications. In particular, despite having more than a year left until employment, the third-year student showed proactiveness by receiving direct job counseling at the site and discussing how to build future specifications.

Stories about corporate welfare benefits were also naturally exchanged at the scene. A current employee of Taihan Cable & Solution gave specific examples, saying, "The meal-related welfare is good, such as being able to have famous food from across the country delivered to the company or to your home to eat with your family." It was explained that events are even held every month to provide various desserts or food from famous specialty restaurants. In this way, the recruitment briefing served as a venue for job seekers to indirectly experience the corporate culture and actual working environment beyond simple information delivery.
